Yeast Extracts

We are pleased to offer stable isotope labeled autolysates of the yeast strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The autolysates are available in the uniform isotope labels 13C, 15N and 13C15N.

Stable Isotope Labeled Yeast Extracts as Growth Media for SF9 Cells (Insect Cells)

Yeast extracts are dried and purified essences of yeast that are often used as a source of proteins, sugars, and essential growth factors. A yeast autolysate is an extract, in this case from the autolyzing yeast strain Sacharomyces cerevisiae, which is a good source of amino acids and vitamins, especially the water-soluble vitamin B complex. Compared to acid hydrolysis, gentle autolysis preserves the acid-labile amino acids.

Novel evidence shows that isotope-labeled yeast extract is an excellent source of amino acids for both, the insect cell/baculovirus expression system as well as mammalian cell system. By supplementing media with a well-considered amount of yeast extract, similar protein amounts as with full media are obtained, without compromising on isotope incorporation.
